So many pictures of the shitshow that is America. This one reminds me of the drill we put our children through in order to protect our freedom and Liberty to bear arms — maybe I shouldn’t say “our” — rather the freedom and Liberty as interpreted by the goons who stormed around the Capitol building today, dressed as Vikings with skins and eyeglasses, overalls and khaki pants, war paint on smug, draping their big-box sporting goods fake camo-clad legs over august desks, their arms wrapped around our sad tattered flag or the one they love more, grinning into cell phone cameras while a fellow goon has her chest blown open, “blood everywhere” and all I can feel is terror dulled down into bottomless contempt and rage at what is warlike and stupid and weak and seemingly endless yet still I can close my eyes and wish to hang on to that man’s hand in that picture his other one holding one of hers, the other holding her heart our hearts all our hearts and hands linked but then I open my eyes

I didn't even realize the man was holding her hand. There is still kindness and humanity, even in the midst of chaos and despair.
