Shine on, Elizabeth. Thank you for the Marcus Aurelius. Imagine having him leading your country. If only . . .

I am commenting from a far away country where on the same day as this happened in the US, a nasty law that used to criminalise gynecologist who offered online and in person information on abortion methods was thrown out by a parliament majority.

And I also lived in catholic Ireland in the darkest times (1980s) when the church ruled supreme and women died because of that.

However, what is happening in your country now is far far worse that what the priests did in Ireland in those days (and still attempt today), because in the US from what I can see/read, it's all inclusive now, miscarriages, online searches, social media activities, aiding, helping, driving a car with a pregnant woman towards the border. . . The white men's revenge. This is Gilead. But remember always: we, the women of the world are watching and we are getting ready.

I am afraid that my color is diminished beyond visibility.

That cartoon is INTENSE! I had similar experiences, and a similar reaction, listening to Christian schoolmates in high school and college. It all seemed like material for healthy debate, but not something fundamentally threatening to my own life. After all, separation of church and state, right? HA!

It ain't over yet. It's time for women to take back their power, the power that scares the shit out of men.

I keep harking back to the time in college when I Thought that I was pregnant for about a week - what a horror it was. And then the blessed curse and pregnant no more - I don’t know what I would have done; having a baby was not an option and Roe v Wade was closer but not here yet. But I did get pregnant (on birth control) years later still no closer to being able to mother a child. Planned Parenthood saved my butt and my future. I am horrified that this has to be fought again. Nothing is sacred save for men’s rights. I can’t help but feel this is some kind of payback for gains made by women. I will stand up, alongside others, up against this tyranny in whatever way that I can. Thanks so much for the Marcus Aurelius! And even more so Mary Oliver.
