Elizabeth, I am so glad you and yours are safe. It's unbelievably sad there. It will be a long road back for everyone. I remember those Santa Ana winds from when I lived in San Diego.

L.A. is a great city. No match for climate change and hurricane force winds. People who are throwing shade don't know diddly squat. Shame on them.

Watching in disbelief from the east coast.

May the winds quiet down. The fires dissipate. And we all come together to rebuild not just places but those spaces internally that have experienced loss. Stay safe!

So sad, and worrying for everyone, most these directly affected. Events like this have a trickle down movement of worry. All across the world. We in Australia are alarmed. It's our summer, our bushfire season and we know how bad it can get. As do you. But this seems even worse than bad. I'm pleased to hear you're safe, and can also understand the guilt attached to this relief. Good that your community is rallying around to support those devastated by these awful fires. I'm thinking of you.

"... We love these places and this landscape deeply and viscerally, and you can feel that sense of community and love, especially, now ..."

Yes. That love goes deep. Heavy hearts everywhere today.

Disasters cause grief for those directly and indirectly affected. Grief does not confine itself to one person, or only those who lost a house, or a loved one, or their livehood, grief will be felt by most everyone in Los Angeles for a long time to come. Please stay safe and make sure you all wear good masks.

Elizabeth, it's a relief to know that you and family are safe in the firestorms. Criticism of CA and LA for the inability to curb this disaster is much like blaming NC and our western communities devastated by Hurricane Helene. Destruction at a scale, pace, and intensity all unprecedented. Perhaps placing blame makes people feel safe, because their state/city/community would never allow this to happen. They may find out otherwise some day. Please know that far more of us are grieving with you and everyone affected. Sending strength and love.
