He is the tragedy. This administration is the tragedy, along with all the people who put them in office and continue to support their cruelty and lack of compassion. I think you could put them all in a room and still not be able to come up with a shred of decency. Every word of this went right through my heart. Love to you and Sophie.
rfk is a waste of skin sadly, so wonderful that he has a cause now, eugenics.
Miss Katie will never work, never pay taxes, and never go to the bathroom by herself. But she provides jobs for numerous people, and more importantly, Katie loves. She makes people smile. It's not her fault that her brain didn't develop the way it should have, but as you said, she is here. Deal with it!
It says a lot about a society, by how they treat their most vulnerable and the US society is a very sick society sadly, I'm sorry to say.
It struck me that his first asshole "observation" was about "never paying taxes". As if that's the most important thing a human can do in life. Fuck that guy.
Sophie has more dignity in her little toe than all these monsters have put together.
At 35, sometimes able to communicate and sometimes not some people honestly think the little 50pound girl with a children's sized 12 inch wheelchair is absolutely too adorable to not be dating. Although her mother is pushing her and she is blind among other things, then her own grandparents tell her she's a waste, can't do college work and will never have kids. I did hit my grandpa before, I did and I don't care if I can't do much of a hit . I just wanted to be accepted. My Mom was using the bathroom and she doesn't know I hit him.
My God, your fourth paragraph, especially beginning with the words, "Why is Sophie alive?", should be required reading for every single person on this planet. It says EVERYTHING we need to hear, to internalize, to understand. It is as powerful a testament to Sophie's right to be, and to the privilege it is for us to share this world with her, as anything I have ever read. But why oh why should you have to defend her right to take up space in the world at all? Honestly, I am appalled at the ignorance of the man who purports to lead the ministries of health, has he met no autistic people in his life?? could he really be that crashingly stupid? Oh Elizabeth, I ache for you, I ache for us all. But that is a wonderful photograph of Sophie, rightfully taking up space in our world.
There are a lot of people whose deaths I hope I live past!
What Sophie doesn't have is the luxury we all take for granted, of being independent. Why that inspires rage or pity in people, rather than an attempt to understand her and others like her, is a mystery. Perhaps it's fear of the unpredictability of life and the universe. People are very strange.
This morning, we went to see 'our' green belt where we new Forest Stewards are going to work with shovels and cultivators to remove ivy and plant trees. wee saplings, every fourth Saturday. Driving home, I heard the latest pronouncement from the orange monster that we going to open up public lands to logging. I had to pull over because I couldn't breathe properly. Then I was yelling fuck him! fuck that guy! fuck him!!
Bless Sophie and all like her. Bless our green spaces, our forests teeming with non human life. Every thing, every single thing we care about is being attacked, destroyed, eviscerated, spat on. How many times can our hearts break completely?
On Saturday, I'll be in front of the Community College for another demo with my Chaplain for Justice sign. Before I go, I'll be planting trees in the greenbelt behind my house. As I long as I have breath, I'm opposing the bastards. Fuck them all.
Growing up in Massachusetts in the 1960s and 70s, the Kennedy mystique was strong; the heartfelt patriotism, the dedication to civil rights, the clear-eyed dedication to truth and justice. But behind it were allegations of rape and murder, substance abuse, and a patriarch who had a daughter lobotomized to control her behavior, and to preserve the family myth of excellence.
You know, the kind of thing that destroys families.
I doubt if RFK has written much poetry.
Best comment ever.
I'd love to see all of these guys under the back tires of a bus. Assholes.

Fuck them all. I knew you would respond to the asshole's remarks with your usual candor and eloquence.
Damn straight, Elizabeth.
Tell me more, RFK, about “not paying taxes” 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

You really know how to make me think about things from a different perspective. Thank you for rattling my mental cage.
