Dearest Sophie- It is a blessing to see your beautiful face. I'm so grateful you are still here, in spite of the fuckery we call our health care system. And Elizabeth. I know. We midwives have a hell of a time getting our clients in to the hospital if they need to go there. It is an absolute nightmare, with one of our babies ending up in high-risk care because we couldn't find a bed ANYWHERE for her momma to go in a timely way. It is a complete disgrace. I can't say enough about the current situation except that the nurses we know are beyond exhausted and overworked and the whole thing is just dreadful.
Coming from a health care system in another country, your tale sounds utterly mystifying. Not that ours isn't laden with its own glaring inadequacies. But hospitalizing patients without any medical reason for a week? Bizarre. I hope you have been released by now and that sweet Sophie is doing well.
It's down to the money. Always. Every day you stay longer means more money can be charged (whether it's actually spent on something to do with health is another thing). I know this sounds harsh and who am I telling you this from across the pond in a country with "socialist" healthcare.
I could tell you stories. But another day. For now, dearest woman, look into your daughter's eyes, hold her hand, stay with her and let the sun in. Keep up your demands, but don't let them exhaust you, reduce you or ridicule you. The health systems are imploding, exploding all around us because health care has been made into a product for money. You know better.
This so very much sucks! It is so frustrating that the healthcare system, including hospitals and their minions, run to serve the system within more than the patients for which they exist - at least. That’s the way it often happens. Case management in particular. I hope they spring you soon!
I have no words, only anger and fellow weariness. I don’t understand what so many people seem to think their jobs are, but they don’t seem to be doing said jobs. I’m so sorry.
Sophie's look says it all. I'm so angry and frustrated for both of you, and wish I had more to offer than that and my continued good thoughts and love.

Much loving kindness from the PNW.

xxxxx your eloquence about it sends out waves..
I loved seeing Sophie but ached for you at the vivid picture you captured with your words. I hope this week is the week you escape.

I love the look on Sophie's face, a WTF look.
Fuck, I hate bureaucracies. They can't get their shit together, at all. Can you just leave? Or would that just throw everyone into a tizzy?
is that your collage? very powerful.
oh the ineptitude of that "system." the "discharge planner" holds so much power, even over doctors, not to mention patients. #letsophiego
Sophie's face says it all: "Oh, come ON, man!"
Master the look on Sophie’s face. Maybe they will let you out.
You have a such an insight into health care for profit. Sending love.
Sophie’s face says it all in that last photo. What a fucking mess the “system” is. Love you both.
