Oh, this ending! Made me cry, but in a healthy life-full, reminding me of a full life, way.
I have been on the lookout for the hummingbirds that hang out near our house. Finally saw the first one today. I've never seen the nests, even though I know which bushes they live in. Nature/nature, it's hard and real.
I’m so sorry about the hummingbirds. Just a moment ago I heard a squeak and looked up to see the the striped tail of a hawk. It’s wing thumped against my picture window as it flew off- most likely with a bird from my bird feeder in its mouth.
The joys and fears of being a mother, expressed so beautifully. Too bad about the hummingbirds, but as you said, "nature." (My mom used to say whenever I lamented the death of any wild creature, "If they all survived, we'd be overrun with hummingbirds!" (In this case.) But I do want ENOUGH of everything to survive, and for some creatures that's surely not happening.) I can't believe Henry is graduating from college. My God.
You really nailed it, Elizabeth. So much beauty, so much heartache in the work of raising a child, in Motherhood, in all its shapes and forms. Thank you so much. - Jodi B

Dead hummingbird babies makes me cry. I know it's nature but it's still so sad.
I'm glad you got to see your son graduate. You must be proud. You did a good job. Your sons are fine young men.

Love reading this, every word.

So beautiful, Elizabeth. And it's testament to your mothering that Henry said that. "She's our mother." You are so loved by all of them.
God, I love your children.

Happy Mother’s Day Elizabeth.
