We are not our thoughts. Thank you Eckhart. His philosophy has helped me a lot over the past few years; a LOT. And it still does; but also, I get such a chuckle out of his observations of human behaviour -- then he giggles -- and I giggle -- I love those little moments while listening to his podcast segments which are necessary reminders to me. He doesn't SAY "Lighten up!" but it may well be the essence of what he's trying to tell us.
So ... your knees ... you tried the "miracle" cabbage and honey treatment and it didn't work? Or you thought it was too silly to waste perfectly good (and friggin' expensive) honey on? I have had only secondhand accounts (from a close friend who believes all kinds of out-there stuff and claims to have witnessed some) of its efficacy so I don't vouch for it. I'm skeptical myself. But if it ever comes to the possibility of knee surgery, I'll be trying it. Perfectly understandable that you might not. Because, I know, it really does sound ridiculous: too easy to be true, and if the cure was that simple, surely doctors would know about it.
There's a lot of ridiculousness going on in the world right now; damaging ridiculousness. The swerve to the far-right is frightening and I sincerely hope that sensible people are taking note and not sticking their heads in the sand, believing nothing bad can happen. Oh it can and it does and it is happening.
Thank you Elizabeth, for stringing together these words, for emphasizing some and not others, for leaving certain things unsaid, and simply or not so simply writing your life, which is LIFE, into this thing someone like me, miles and miles away, does read and savor. Not only savor but digest, and contemplate long after the reading is done. The words essence will be on my mind today.
What an amazing piece of writing. So many words, and thoughts, seemingly disjointed (like life), but really bringing the reader, ineluctably, to that piercing last sentence.
I can't tell you how much I look forward to your writing, for your uncanny ability to reach into my brain and rearrange not just the way I see the world but the ways I see potential for expressing and interpreting it. I didn't even see the article about the laptop and yet somehow you've made me care about it in a way that's entirely different from and probably far more important than the author of it intended.
Why is anyone even vaguely interested in Hunter Biden's laptop when there were empty files marked "classified" in Donald Trump's storage room?
I'm glad that Sophie's neurologist is showing some interest in the no-seizures-during-a-virus phenomena. That is something. I'm not sure what, but something.
To the medical research crowds, we are all just anecdotal. And I say this with years of working for researchers behind me, some of them wonderful.
My Daughter, Evie, 32 years old, also gets respite from seizures when feverish. Never has a neurologist been curious.
