That's so interesting about the seizures and her immune system. I imagine there is much more there that we don't know about it. Our bodies are such complex organisms. I have a friend with endometriosis so severe that it sounds more like an auto immune disorder.

So when Sophie's immune system is fired up, less seizures. There has to be a link there. Just because neurologists don't understand it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. The dangers of hubris.

I'm glad she's doing well and I am so glad to know a fellow witch. I have a beautiful broom hanging in my laundry room that I tell my grandson I use to fly to work.

Well, maybe we could meet in the air somewhere between us?

For some reason this leaves me weepy, although maybe we don't need a reason. That fig cake looks amazing. The hubris of many medical professionals is so exhausting that it feels like a slog to even talk about it anymore. And yet, we have to. Will be thinking of her through that second vaccine 💕

The word "exhausting" is under-utilized, I think. Thank you for your kind words. I wish I could make you a fig cake.

Hard agree. It's amazing the depths that "exhaustion," "exhausting," and "exhaustive" can really plumb. And how frightening its bottomlessness can be.

There is such momentum in this post, I flowed right though and was at the end of it before I knew it and so went back and read it again. What wonderful books you are reading with your students. And I am so happy that Sophie has tolerated the vaccine well so far, and may it continue to be so. Neurologists should listen to you. They really should.

Thank you! I love re-reading these books with students. It's really the best job I've ever had.

It's funny- when you said that Sophie was being vaccinated I wondered if her seizures would abate afterward for awhile because I, too, have a tiny little mother mind and unlike the neurologists, I remembered how fever can do that for her.

I love you for remembering that.

Since I last wrote: I’ve not felt quite as delighted by someone’s recounting of what they’ve been up to; I’ve not seen a cake as scrumptious looking as your fig cake; I’d not realized how much I miss the camaraderie you described as experiencing at your job (lucky students). Love and thanks to your “little mother mind.”

I'm glad Sophie is stable and I'm sure your "mother mind" is onto something. I did not realize Lauren Groff had another book out -- that's the best news I've had all day! We have "Snow Falling on Cedars" in our library and no one ever checks it out, which dismays me -- I loved it so much when it came out years ago.
